Pudong looks to improve its soft environment to lure talents

chinadaily.com.cn Updated:2018-07-02

Pudong New Area in Shanghai recently proposed improving its soft environment to lure and retain highly-skilled workers.

The proposed moves include promoting the construction of apartments designed particularly for international talents and making public housing for rent to combat the problem of high house prices.

Some 8.9 million square meters of houses for rent are planned at the Zhangjiang High Tech Park, to satisfy local workers' needs for housing.

There are also plans to build new museums, libraries, opera houses, plazas,  parks, and walkways, all within a 15 minute reach of the workers' homes.

Additionally, high-quality education and medical resources will be provided.

All these measures aim to satisfy the needs of both the highly-skilled workers and their families, which is considered conducive to attracting and retaining personnel.

The proposals for a soft environment in Pudong, home to the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, are part of wider plans to build the city into a global scientific and technological innovation center.
