Hugh Hewitt named president of Nixon Foundation
Hugh Hewitt, who hosts a nationally syndicated radio show, was named president and CEO of the Richard Nixon Foundation on Monday.
He will succeed William H. Baribault, who has led the California-based foundation since 2014, on July1.
In making the announcement, foundation Chairman Dr James H. Cavanaugh said in a statement, "Hugh Hewitt led the Nixon Foundation nearly 30 years ago, and now he's coming home."
"I am honored to be invited back to serve the legacy of President Nixon," Hewitt said.
"Richard Nixon was a grand strategist and master diplomat, and his vision is exactly that is needed today as America faces challenges and opportunities with China, North Korea, Russia, throughout the Middle East and elsewhere," Hewitt added.
"We are delighted to welcome Hugh home to Yorba Linda," Nixon's daughters Tricia Nixon Cox and Julie Nixon Eisenhower said in a joint statement.
Hewitt is a 1978 graduate of Harvard University and a 1983 graduate of the University of Michigan law school. After Harvard, he worked first for David Eisenhower, then for former president Nixon, as a researcher and writer in San Clemente, California, and New York. He also oversaw the groundbreaking and opening on July 19, 1990, of the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda, California.
Hewitt is a tenured law professor at Chapman University's Fowler School of Law, and a contributing columnist for The Washington Post. He was a panelist on four CNN Republican primary debates in 2016 and is a frequent panelist on NBC's Meet the Press. Hewitt is the author of a dozen books, including two New York Times best-sellers.
Hewitt will continue to host The Hugh Hewitt Show, his weekday morning radio show on the Salem Radio Network. He will split his time between Washington and Yorba Linda. Hugh Hewitt named president of Nixon Foundation
