The 28th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, the most prestigious film festival in China, kicked off in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, on Nov 19.

According to a news conference held on Nov 19, the film festival will be held in the coastal city of Xiamen for the next five years. This is expected to provide a boost to Fujian's film and television industry.

The five-day festival will feature a wide range of activities, including training courses for young directors, film exhibitions, and several professional forums to facilitate exchange and investment.

In recent years, Fujian has been attaching great importance to the development of its cultural industry and providing strong support for its film industry. In 2018, Fujian's box office revenue exceeded two billion yuan ($284.47 million) for the first time, ranking 10th among Chinese provinces, and its film industry has become a new source of growth for the province.

Fujian is a melting pot of Zhuzi, Minnan, Matsu, Hakka, and marine culture, and the province has been looking to imbue its film industry with this cultural wealth.
