Passengers are now able to scan their ID cards at ticket barriers to enter all five high-speed railway stations in Wuxi.

Wuxi's railway stations are now only issuing ticket notices instead of paper tickets in order to prevent the use of fake tickets.

Passengers will also be able to use a QR code on their phones or an ID card to enter the stations without worrying about losing their paper-tickets.

The residence permit for foreigners and the mainland travel permit for Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macao residents are also admitted to enter the station.

In addition, those who need them can have reimbursement vouchers printed at the station's ticketing window within 30 days after their date of travel by presenting their ID cards.

In recent years, travelers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and other major second-tier cities have been able to board high speed trains using only their ID cards, while passengers in remote areas still must use paper tickets.

This is reportedly part of China's move towards a "paperless ticket" system, and it is expected to be promoted nationwide according to Chinese railway authorities.
