Senior lawmakers study Xi's speech on Civil Code, schedule legislative session


BEIJING -- Senior Chinese lawmakers met on Tuesday to study a recent speech made by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on the effective implementation of the country's newly adopted Civil Code.
The meeting of the Council of Chairpersons of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee was presided over by Li Zhanshu, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.
Xi's speech elucidated the significance of the promulgation and implementation of the Civil Code and specified the requirements for promoting its implementation, according to the meeting.
The strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core is the fundamental reason for the successful compilation of the Civil Code, and will definitely promote its thorough and effective implementation, according to the meeting.
The meeting urged the NPC Standing Committee to follow Xi's instructions and work out measures for promoting the implementation of the Civil Code.
The meeting also decided to convene the 19th session of the 13th NPC Standing Committee from June 18 to 20 in Beijing and proposed the agenda of the session.
According to the proposed agenda, the legislature will deliberate drafts and reports including the draft law on administrative discipline and a draft revision to the Law on the People's Armed Police Force.
