Canada defeats China in Olympic basketball qualifying tournament

VICTORIA, Canada -- Canada's men's basketball team beat China 109-79 in the Olympic qualifying tournament here on Wednesday.
Eight Canadian players scored double-digits. Andrew Wiggins led the home team with 20 points. RJ Barrett contributed 16 points and 5 assists. Dwight Powell added 12 points.
Hu Mingxuan scored a team-high 24 points for China, followed by 12 points from Zhou Qi. Shen Zijie had 11 points and 8 rebounds. Xu Jie and Zhou Peng had 8 points apiece.
The FIBA World Cup 2019 produced seven directly qualified teams for the Tokyo Olympics and Japan received automatic qualification as the hosts. The final four Olympic spots are reserved for the winners of the four FIBA Olympic qualifying tournaments in Victoria, the Serbian capital of Belgrade, Kaunas in Lithuania, and Croatia's Split respectively.
China, who's drawn in the same group with home team Canada and powerhouse Greece in Victoria, will play Greece in the next game.
