Ministry picks May as national Mental Health Education Month

The Ministry of Education has designated the month of May as the national Mental Health Education Month to help raise awareness about the issue, it announced on Wednesday.
Various educational activities will be held during the month, including a lecture that will focus on major mental health problems that students deal with, the ministry said.
Wang Jiayi, vice-minister of education, said at the launching ceremony in Beijing for the first Mental Health Education Month that the ministry is also making efforts to strengthen students' mental health education by comprehensively implementing the scientific education concept, enhancing the mental health levels of teachers, guiding parents to care for their children's mental health and organizing related events during the month.
The establishment of the national Mental Health Education Month will play a significant role in raising greater societal awareness of students' mental health and ensuring the physical and mental well-being of young people, he said.
