Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning urged on Wednesday the Philippine side to handle the case of a suspected Chinese spy based on facts and making wild accusations.
Mao made the remarks after the Philippine authorities had apprehended an alleged Chinese spy suspected of being involved in espionage activities in the Southeast Asian country.
"The Chinese government has always asked Chinese nationals overseas to abide by local laws and regulations. We urge the Philippine side to act based on facts, stop shadow-catching, stop peddling the so-called Chinese spy and earnestly respect the lawful rights and interests of Chinese nationals," Mao said at a regular news briefing.
