Jinan – capital of East China’s Shandong province – is shining with lanterns as it prepares to celebrate the upcoming 44th Spring Festival Lantern Festival.

Festive lantern displays at Daming Lake, part of the celebration, have been lighting up the nights since the evening of Jan 22, marking the Little New Year.

This year's Lantern Festival is set in a very popular place in the city called the World's Best Spring Scenic Area – spanning Baotu Spring Park, Daming Lake, Five Dragon Pool, and the city moat.

The event features an impressive array of 72 light installations – including over 10 extra-large displays, five large installations, more than 40 medium and small-scale pieces and over 10 ambient lighting arrangements, creating a stunning visual effect across the iconic locations.
