Beijing People's Art Theatre stages 'Zhang Juzheng' in St. Petersburg


Beijing People's Art Theatre staged its production, Zhang Juzheng, at the National Drama Theatre of Russia (Alexandrinsky Theatre) from Sept 26 to 28, in St. Petersburg.
This marks the fourth time Beijing People's Art Theatre has visited St. Petersburg with an original production, following the success of previous performances.
The production follows the story of Zhang Juzheng, the famous politician who led the reforms of the economy and of official evaluations during the reign of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) Emperor Wanli. It was adapted from writer and poet Xiong Zhaozheng's four-volume novel, Zhang Juzheng, which won the Mao Dun Literature Prize, one of China's most prestigious literary accolades.
Written by Xiong and directed by Feng Yuanzheng and Yan Rui, the production features a stellar cast, including Feng, who plays the title role, Zhang Pei and Wang Zhuoda.
