China's top legislature schedules upcoming session in October

BEIJING -- The Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, will hold its 18th session in Beijing from Oct 24 to 28.

This decision was adopted on Wednesday at a meeting of the Council of Chairpersons of the NPC Standing Committee, which was presided over by Zhao Leji, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.

According to a proposed agenda for the upcoming session, lawmakers will review draft revisions to the Maritime Law, the Organic Law of Villagers' Committees and the Organic Law of Urban Residents' Committees, as well as draft amendments to the Cybersecurity Law and the Environmental Protection Tax Law, among other legislative documents.

Lawmakers will also discuss a proposal submitted by the Supervisory and Judicial Affairs Committee of the NPC for the deliberation of a draft law on procuratorial public-interest litigation, as well as proposals submitted by the State Council for the review of a draft law on farmland protection and quality improvement, along with relevant conventions and treaties.

Per the proposed agenda, lawmakers will also hear reports submitted by the State Council on financial work, the management of state-owned assets in 2024, and the execution of criminal punishment, together with other reports submitted by the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, and various NPC committees.
