Old masters

Dozens of paintings, prints, sculptures and watercolors by eminent artists teaching at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing are currently on show at Old Masters, New Era, an exhibition at the gallery of the National Centre for the Performing Arts until March 31.

The works are primarily from the collection of the CAFA Art Museum and include late artists such as Qi Baishi (1864-1957), whose vigorous style breathed new life into classical Chinese painting in the 20th century, and Xu Beihong (1895-1953), who was trained in France, promoted oil art at home and laid the foundations for modern art education in China. Also featured are works by artists active in the latter half of the 20th century, offering insights into evolving aesthetic currents across generations.

9 am-5 pm, closed on Mondays.

2 West Chang'an Avenue, Xicheng district, Beijing. 010-6655-0000.
