BEIJING - China and Kyrgyzstan have agreed to work more closely to fight terrorism.

The pledge came out of talks on Tuesday between China's police chief Meng Jianzhu and Kyrgyzstan's Chairman of State Committee for National Security Keneshbek Dushebayev.

"We hope both sides can deepen pragmatic cooperation and improve the capability to prevent and fight terrorist acts in order to safeguard security and stability in both countries and in the region," said Meng, minister of public security.

The public security and security departments of the two countries have worked well together in combatting the three evil forces of terrorism, separatism and extremism, fighting drug-trafficking, improving border management and law enforcement over the past years, Meng said.

Dushebayev said Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security viewed law enforcement cooperation with the Chinese Ministry of Public Security as important, and it would step up communication and expand law enforcement cooperation.

At the talks, Meng and Dushebayev signed an agreement for the establishment of a communication mechanism on border issues between the Chinese Ministry of Public Security and Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security.
