Painted Skin: The Resurrection has grossed 300 million yuan ($47 million) since its premiere at midnight on June 28, according to Long Media, the film's marketing agency.

The film also boasted the third-highest premiere-day box office receipts of all films screened in China by raking in 70 million yuan, behind Titanic 3D and Transformers 3.

The 3D sequel to a smash hit in 2008 is a fantasy blockbuster about a general's relationship with a princess and a fox demon. It was directed by Inner Mongolian Wuershan and features a stellar cast including Zhou Xun, Chen Kun and Zhao Wei.
