Lei Zhengfu, Party secretary of Beibei district in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, was removed from office following confirmation that he was one of the people in a sex video posted on the Internet, according to a decision made by the Chongqing Committee of the Communist Party of China announced on Friday.

Video clips of a naked man and woman were posted online earlier this week, claiming that they showed Lei making love with his 18-year-old mistress.

The Chongqing discipline inspection watchdog started checking the content of the video on Thursday, local media reported.

A further investigation into Lei will be conducted, according to Friday's statement.
