BEIJING - Chinese shares closed higher Thursday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.54 percent, or 14.97 points, to close at 2,810.44.

The Shenzhen Component Index lost 0.31 percent, or 38.33 points, to finish at 12,440.83.
