Reconstructed Chinese Calligraphy Museum opens
2010-11-09

The new Chinese Calligraphy Museum of Xi’an opened on September 28, the one-year anniversary of Chinese calligraphy and seal cutting’s listing in the “UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.” The new museum is located in Daming Palace National Heritage Park, Xi’an.

Originally located at the South Gate of Xi’an, the Chinese Calligraphy Museum, the first calligraphy museum of China, was authorized 20 years ago by the Xi’an municipal government under the proposal of Fu Jiayi, a famous calligrapher and seal cutter. Many other calligraphers and seal cutters from Shaanxi province contributed to the construction of the museum as well

In a plan called “City of Museums,” implemented by the Xi’an municipal government in May, the reconstruction of the Chinese Calligraphy Museum of Xi’an was considered a key part of the plan. The construction of the new museum, which includes the Display and Exchange Center of Chinese Calligraphic Archaeology, Shaanxi, was completed five months later.
