According to the list of Chinese Traditional Villages evaluated and released by the Chinese Traditional Village Protection and Development Committee, 134 villages from Guizhou have made the list; 27 of them are villages in Anshun.

These traditional villages were built before 1912 but are still in good condition. They feature unique folk customs and traditions and are still in use.

Based on some academic research on village protection, it is likely that villages with a long history and peculiar architectural and cultural values vanish at a rate of one every three days.

Villages included in the list represent the highest level in architecture and folk culture. It is suggested that actions should be taken to protect the villages from overdevelopment and control commercial development.
