Reconstruction of Grand Canal starts ( 2003-09-28 11:33) (China Daily)
The reconstruction of the 830-million-yuan Hangzhou section of the Hangzhou-Ningbo Canal, which is the extension part of the 1,747-km Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, officially started today. Sources said that the reconstruction project will include the construction of 22 bridges and a lock that allows the passage of 500-tonnage level vessels and is expected to be completed in 2007.
