The city of Datong's agriculture committee reports that its modern agricultural demonstration zone has attracted 7.38 billion yuan ($1.2 billion) in investment and has completed work on 376 projects. The zone was one of Shanxi province’s three major demonstration areas, in 2009, and has brought great improvements through industrialized agriculture. This year it is expecting to produce 550,000 tons of vegetables, worth about 1.3 billion yuan. It also has 3,800 farm cooperatives and 631 production parks in the dairy, meat, fruit, vegetable, and cereal grain fields, with 60 more zones opening this year has attracted 1.94 billion yuan investment ,or 77 percent of its annual goal.
