More than 100 volunteers in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region organized a trip to the region's Karamori Mountain Natural Reserve last Friday to feed wildlife hit by a heavy snowfall toward the end of last year.

The snow covered the grassland completely and made it very difficult for animals there to graze and find food.

After hearing of the animals' plight, the volunteers from the cities of Wujiaqu, Kuitun, Urumqi and Changji set out for the affected area with alfalfa and straw feed for the wild animals.

The reserve is the largest of its kind that is home to ungulate wildlife in China. Twelve species under first-class national protection such as gazelle, Mustang and argali, as well as 36 species of wild animals under second-class State protection, can be found in the area.
