Chinese pop diva Faye Wong has given birth to a healthy 8.8-pound (4-kilogram) baby girl in Beijing by Caesarean section, news reports Sunday said.

Wong's agent, Chen Jiaying, confirmed the birth at Beijing's Peking Union Hospital on Saturday, the Chinese news Web site Sina.com reported.

However, the hospital tightened up security, adding dozens of personnels, to seal off the diva and her baby from the media.  

"Mother and daughter are healthy. Her whole family is really happy. The daughter weighs 8.8 pounds (4 kilograms)," Chen said.

Photographers from all over the country have been waiting outside the hospital and Wong's home for weeks, hoping to capture the first pictures of the baby.

Wong's newborn is fathered by Chinese actor Li Yapeng, whom she married in July. The pop star has another daughter from her previous marriage to Chinese rocker Dou Wei.

Wong was hugely popular in China and Hong Kong in the mid-1990s but has unofficially retired from the entertainment scene in recent years.
