AMMAN -- Two demonstrations were held on Friday in Amman and Irbid to protest against the execution of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

A large number of people took to the streets of downtown Amman and Irbid after noon prayers.

Holding Jordanian flags and portraits of Saddam, they denounced Saddam's execution by hanging.

"The execution of Saddam Hussein violates all laws and international conventions," said the protestors.

According to spokesperson of the Higher Committee of the Jordanian National Opposition Political Parties Zaki Bani Rsheid, the committee obtained approval on Thursday from the Amman governor to stage the demonstrations.

The committee also mourned Saddam's death through advertisements on local newspapers, Rsheid said.
