Ren Yuzhong, a standing committee member of the Party Committee of Peking University and vice-president of the university, is under investigation for suspected severe violations of disciplines and laws, according to a statement by China's top anti-graft bodies on Wednesday.

The Communist Party of China's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision said in a statement that Ren, who voluntarily turned himself in, is currently undergoing disciplinary review and investigation.

Ren, born in January 1980, hails from Ziyang, Sichuan province. He held several key positions including head of the publicity department of the university's Party committee and spokesperson for the university.

Ren earned his doctoral degree in law from Peking University, where he previously studied at the School of International Studies.
