The 2025 Dongfeng·Voyah Wuhan Open concluded on Sunday night with two-time Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff capturing the women's singles crown, defeating fellow American Jessica Pegula 6-4, 7-5 in the final. Gauff completed the tournament without dropping a set, earning her first WTA 1000 title of the year and cementing her place in the season-ending WTA Finals.

The championship showdown brought together this year's French Open winner and last year's US Open runner-up. While Pegula had led their previous head-to-head record 4–2, Gauff carried the momentum from her straight-sets victory in their most recent meeting at the 2024 WTA Finals — and once again came out on top.

Gauff took early control in the opening set, breaking serve to race ahead 3-0. Pegula recovered to level the score at 4-4, but Gauff held firm, holding serve and breaking again to close the set 6-4.

Pegula responded strongly in the second, breaking twice to go up 3-0, yet Gauff fought back with her trademark composure, winning four consecutive games from 3-5 down to seal the victory 7-5.

The triumph ended Gauff's run of two consecutive WTA 1000 final losses and marked her third WTA 1000 title and 11th career singles title. The 21-year-old also set a new Wuhan Open record, conceding only 25 games across five matches — the fewest ever by a champion in the tournament's history.

"I'm just happy with the way I played," Gauff said. "And even [when] the moments got tough, I believed in myself, and trusted my instincts. I think winning the tournament in the way I did gives me a lot of confidence. Winning in straight sets in all my matches definitely shows me that I have the level to be the player that I want to be. And I hope I can continue on this path."
