Over 10,000 reports of persecution of Taiwan compatriots by separatists received
More than 10,000 reports of persecution carried out by "Taiwan independence" separatists against Taiwan compatriots have been received since the launch of a dedicated reporting column, a Chinese mainland spokeswoman said on Wednesday.
Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a regular news conference that the steady flow of reports demonstrates the strong desire of people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to see severe punishment for "Taiwan independence" henchmen and accomplices.
"It also reflects the shared aspiration of people across the Strait to firmly oppose 'Taiwan independence' separatism, promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, and advance the cause of national reunification," Zhu said.
The special reporting column, launched on March 26 on the office's official website, allows the public to report malicious acts committed by "Taiwan independence" separatists who persecute Taiwan compatriots.
Zhu added that the office supports the relevant authorities in cracking down on such individuals and pursuing lifelong accountability, based on facts and in accordance with the law.
