The All-China Federation of Trade Unions has recently issued a notice urging trade unions at all levels to help regulate employers' wage arrears for migrant workers.

Under the notice, trade unions at all levels should monitor clues of wage arrears promptly and closely follow the case progress concerning arrears. Also, trade unions at all levels should communicate directly with local human resources bureaus and help inspect employers or construction contractors known for withholding migrant workers' wages.

Local trade unions can work with legal departments to popularize knowledge on wage arrears, punishment for dishonesty and legal assistance available to migrant workers, and guide workers to protect their rights in proper ways.

Trade unions at all levels are required to provide assistance to workers claiming their unpaid wages. For those laid off, the trade unions should take active measures to introduce them jobs or skills training courses to help them land jobs as soon as possible.

According to the notice, the program will last until the 2026 Spring Festival holiday, the Chinese traditional family reunion holiday falling in mid-February.
